Was the Chilbolton ‘code’ formation a reply to the tongue-in-cheek Arecibo message 27 years prior, or to our latest serious cartoon posted only six weeks prior? BRETT PARROTT states his case…


There are some considerable similarities between my cartoon enitlted ‘The Mandelbrots at Home’, posted up on Swirled News in the summer, and the ‘code’ formation at Chilbolton:


* The matrix of (off and on) orange lights on the back wall looks a bit like the binary coded part of the ‘Arecibo’ formation, with orange a good choice of pen colour to match the ripe crop.

* The DNA on the book cover is also in the pictorial part of the Arecibo formation.

* The two silver cylindrical seats look like the raised cylinders of crop in the accompanying ‘face’ formation.

* The two Mandelbrots slightly resemble the Chilbolton formation of last year. That formation looked a bit like two Mandelbrots sharing one head.
